We are a bioinformatics lab that uses an evolutionary approach to better understand the genetics and ecology of microscopic fungi that are important to humans. Because of its small genome, and the vast amount that is already known about its genetics, we often use Saccharomyces cerevisiae as our starting point for the development of approaches that can then be applied to other organisms. Research projects in the lab usually fall into three major areas:

Population genomics of wine yeast and other microfungi
Ecology of wild yeast and other microfungi
Evolution of non-coding DNA, large insertions and deletions
